Monday Motivation - Show up... People Need You!

April Fools Day, Blue Eagle... and Happy Monday!

Later today, we will have multiple athletes receive an email from CrossFit Headquarters that they have made it past the CrossFit Open and into the Quarterfinals. To move on to the Semifinals, these athletes must perform 4-5 workouts from April 17-22. From April 17-22, our normal class programming will be these required workouts.

Here is my ask: Show up! People need you!

All the athletes who have qualified for the Quarterfinals absolutely *love* working out with other people. They push themselves harder when the energy in the room is elevated and thumping.

Let me tell you a story... this is a special story that I can never tell without tears hitting my keyboard. I am not much of a writer, so I doubt I will do it justice, but here goes...

Three years ago, my oldest daughter was a freshman swimmer on varsity at Jordan High School. Every morning, Monday through Friday, varsity swim practice was for two hours, starting at 5 AM—5 AM!!

She won Districts in the 500 Free to qualify for Region... even as a freshman. A lot of her teammates also qualified for Region. All of the kids who qualified for Region kept practicing. All of the kids who did not qualify stopped practicing because their season was over.

My daughter then went on to win the Region in the 500 Free to qualify for State. We were super-excited for her but disappointed because no one else from her team qualified for State. Their seasons were over, and they would not be at practice because what teenager wants to go to swim practice at 5 AM when their season is over?

She won the Region on a Saturday and had practice first thing on Monday morning. Like usual, I drove her to practice, expecting to pull into an empty lot. And wondering how she would handle the drudgery of swimming alone for two hours.

Instead, it was bustling like every other day. Every single kid who qualified for Region was at 5 AM practice on Monday morning. Why?

Because their teammate qualified for State and their teammate needed them.

My daughter went on to finish 5th in that State swim meet. Her teammates had a ton of impact on her success.

These kids showed up because someone needed them. This is my ask of you... show up!

- Show up for your workouts because the people next to you will miss you if you're not there.

- Show up in your relationships because "doing life" alone is hard.

- Show up in your conversations because no one likes talking to a wall.

- Show up in life because being in your presence is one of the special things about knowing you.

Have a great week!
