Monday Motivation - There's Nothing Stopping You

Happy Monday, Blue Eagle!

DeMeco Ryans

I love the Houston Texans! This has been a fun season. The Texans won the AFC South division this weekend and will host a playoff game next week. I also love our head coach, DeMeco Ryans. As a player, DeMeco Ryans was an All-American at Alabama in college and then an All-Pro for the Texans in the NFL. Given his background, his ascent as a top NFL head coach is unsurprising.

But I love another NFL coach even more. His name is Mike McDaniel, and he coaches the Miami Dolphins. Mike McDaniel is the opposite of DeMeco Ryans.

Mike McDaniel

Mike McDonald never played football because he is too small. He got fired a few years ago from the NFL because he was an alcoholic. There is nothing intimidating about him. He is not your typical head coach. When he took over as the head coach, he told his team he bought a rare, very expensive watch that was completely out of character for him. He told them that if he was a one-and-done head coach, meaning that if he got fired after only one year, the purchase would be a terrible idea. In essence, he was telling his players he is committed to winning.

How often have you looked in the mirror and told yourself you can't do certain things because... you're too short... not smart... need more money... you have too many responsibilities... blah, blah, blah... ???

Mike McDaniel could have given up his dream of coaching football because he never played.

But he became a better coach by studying people playing instead of playing himself.

He could have given up after being fired for alcoholism.

But he addressed his condition and came out the other side with more empathy and compassion.

There is nothing stopping you from your goals, whatever those goals may be.
